Welcome to the Sapio Region!

Legend Begins:

The islands rose above the sea, As a injured Cresselia wisped along the lunar sky, split into three fragments  Erises of the sky, Dysnomias of the sea and Ceris of the land, as the three fell they were consumed by the elements around them Erises crumbled into dust shimmering in the wind while Dysnomias melted into the waves and Ceris sank deep into the roots of the weirwood tree. With their might Sapio Region was formed.

Pokémon Trainers:

At the age of fifteen, any Sapio citizen can obtain their Training License from designated Centers. A Training License allows a person to legally own and battle Pokémon. The only other designated distributor of a Sapio Trainer License is the famous Professor Willow.

Once a year, Pokémon trainers can enlist in the Pokémon league. Official League battles are any battles that take place between two members of the league. Gym battles, Invitational, major tournaments, etc. are usually televised. Once a year, the championship tournament is held, where trainers with at least eight gym badges compete to be recognized as the best trainer in the league. Unless previously agreed otherwise, official league battles are three-on-three, free substitution. The exception to this is Gym Leaders in gym battles, who are not allowed substitution.

Pokémon Coordinators:

After obtaining their training license, a trainer can raise their Pokémon to compete in Pokémon Contests. These trainers are called, Pokémon Coordinators.

They raise their Pokémon much like Pokémon Trainers do, although with much more emphasis on beauty and appearances since they are major factors when it comes to points in Contests. They need to train their Pokémon to have beautiful moves, and be able to do well in battles, as a battle tournament is the second round of a Contest. Coordinators need a Sapio Contest Pass to enter a Contests in the region. Like Trainers, Coordinators travel throughout the region to catch and raise their Pokémon. However, unlike Trainers, their goal is to collect Ribbons instead of badges. Much like badges, Coordinators only get a single shot of winning a particular ribbon per day. They also must compete with other Coordinators for that ribbon. In Sapio Region, there are altogether four contest stadiums, each with a different contest rank. The winner of the Normal Rank stadium ribbon will be able to compete in the Super Rank, then the Hyper Rank, followed by the Ultra Rank then finally the Master Rank. Each stadium has two segments to the contest, Appeal and then the battle portion in which they need to show off their beauty more than their strength. They need to collect one ribbons from each of the five stadiums in the region in order to be able to participate in the Sapio Grand Festival. If they win the Grand Festival, they will be awarded the Ribbon Cup.

Pokémon Breeders:

A Pokémon Breeder is primarily a Trainer who raises and mates carefully selected Pokémon to reproduce specific improvements in future generations of Pokémon such as attacks or natures. Pokémon Breeders typically concern themselves with raising Pokémon for health and happiness, rather than for Pokémon battles. It is common for them to take interest in Pokémon Contests to show off beauty. The main aspects of Pokémon breeding include: Monitoring, or taking care of, and hatching Pokémon eggs, Pokémon grooming, and Pokémon nutrition. In Sapio Region, Pokémon breeders are often seen alongside gym leaders who hire breeders to carefully breed them specially bred Pokémon.

Sapio Trainer Tools:

Sapio Pokédex:

The Eighth version of the Pokédex, it is a specialized tool originally created by famous Professor Oak of the Kanto Region. Professor Oak collaborated with Professor Willow, just recently and the fruit of their labor is this new Pokédex. Unknown to the general public, this new device is empty and Professor Willow plans to go out and fill it with information on all the Pokémon in Sapio Region, designed to catalog and provide information regarding the various species of Pokémon. Upon contact with a Pokémon the Pokédex records a picture, name, and type. As a battle is going on between the Dex holder and the Pokémon in question, the Pokédex will analyze the Pokémon's details and attacks.

New Pokéballs:

The basic tool for any Pokémon Trainer is the Pokéball. The balls convert a Pokémon into energy upon contact for a very brief moment before shrinking them, and closing automatically. Stronger Pokémon are able to struggle and possibly break free, while those that have been weakened are easily captured. The Sapio region is home to five new Pokeball's.

Friendball: Any Pokémon can be caught with this ball, it isn’t very different from the original ball. Except for the key element of friendship; any Pokémon caught with this ball starts off more tame, making it easier for the trainer to befriend it.

Loveball: This specific ball works better if the wild Pokémon is of the opposite gender of the Pokémon battling it.

Weatherball: This is a newly created model that enables a trainer to have a better chance at capturing a Pokémon in any harsh weather condition.

Miniball: This newly created model enhances the change of capturing a smaller size Pokémon, just like the Heavyball this Pokémon scans the weight of a Pokémon and the overall size. The lighter and smaller the Pokémon is the higher success of capture a trainer has.

Antiqueball: These Pokéballs were once used as the standard Pokéball about fifty years ago, now obsolete. But Prof. Willow and Oak enhanced the ball to allow the capture of ancient Pokémon for mythology. Due to Prof. Willow's obsession with Pokémon mythology he has enhanced three Antiqueball with this capability.

PokéPHO:
The Pokémon Phone Device, or PokéPHO for short, is a personal tool manufactured by NeoGen Corp. for Sapio Trainers, in the form of a hand-held smart device with a touch screen. The PokePHO's functionality is very broad, having many applications which make it extensible. NeoGen Corp. as well as independent developers, periodically create new apps. The user selects what app to use from the main menu on the touch screen, the various applications appear as small thumbnails. At the bottom of the screen is a small area that remains there no matter what app your using, it shows the current time and date as well as the user's name. A PokéPHO is usually silver, with a matching silver stylus, black grip at the bottom and a white Pokéball speaker on top. Professor Willow however ordered three PokéPHOs and had them created with different colors in order to distinguish them. Its basic applications consist of access to the Pokémon World Net, where you can check up news from all over the Sapio Region. Radio, Internet Browser, Camera and its main function: a Phone. The PokéPHO can connect to the Pokémon Center system so you can know your team's status.

Sapio League:

In the Sapio region, the Pokémon League is a regional championship held every two years where trainers come together and battle their Pokémon. Held in Regulus City, the Regulus Conference is divided into two rigorous parts: qualifying rounds in Victory Road, and the final rounds against the Elite 4. The Trainer who manages to complete both and come out ictorious in all battles is deemed the winner of the Sapio League; losing trainers who participate in the league will be ranked accordingly. Unlike most regions the Sapio region is home to 17 Gyms. In order to qualify for the tournament - a Trainer must collect the eight Sapio gym badges from any of the 17 Gyms. All trainers who manage to complete this task will enter the qualifying rounds in the Victory Road, where a trainer must travel alone with their Pokémon and battle others along the way. Those with the highest victories will advance to the final rounds with the Elite Four members, where the survival contest begins. Those who manage to defeat all members will battle each other until a Champion is crowned. The Sapio League is sanctioned and run by the Pokémon Association.

Sapio Grand Festival:

The Grand Festival is the final challenge for all Sapio Pokémon Coordinators. In order to qualify, coordinators must win five ribbons from the Pokémon Contest Halls throughout Sapio. The tournament follows a similar structure to an ordinary Pokémon Contest with a few key differences. One of which is that instead of a panel of only three judges, they are joined by two high ranked coordinators to bring the panel to five judges. The Sapio Grand Festival is held at Regulus City, in the Regulus Castle a few months before the Regulus Conference. The Grand Festival holds Preliminary Rounds, the first two of which are Appeal stages. Coordinators must twice produce impressive appeals with their Pokémon in order to progress through the tournament and only the best sixteen coordinators go through to the finals. On the third day of the tournament, the Coordinators face each other in knock-out double battles. Matches last for five minutes and the Coordinator with the last points loses, only if both opponents still have a Pokémon standing. The Coordinator who wins all four matches is crowned winner and is awarded the Ribbon Cup.
